Detachment

A substitute teacher who drifts from classroom to classroom finds a connection to the students and teachers during his latest assignment.

Its hard to describe this film, during the entirety of the film it has clips of the teachers talking about teaching or about the students, but i'm not sure why, its never really explained. As in are they being interviewed or is it meant to be a documentary?

Adrian Brody is the Sub teacher who seems a detached character, forms a friendship with a teenage prostitute and takes her under his wing and tries to teach her she can do better. While he's doing this, the school he teaches in faces closure as its test scores are the lowest around.

Basically its how teachers and students cope with the pressures of school life and the pressures of everyday, it definitely has the 'indy film' vibe and certainly isn't a life changer 2/5.

Raven

When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works, a young Baltimore detective joins forces with Poe to stop him from making his stories a reality.

The closest i have come to Edgar Allan Poe is The Simpsons episode they did. Anyway my friend and i thought the film was a interesting concept, a Tim Burton style film. I didnt have any complaints about John Cusack who played Poe, thou i thought the actor playing the detective lack a bit of charisma.

Unlike other films ive seen this year didnt work out the 'badie' until the end. I liked the film, so did my friend thou we both agreed it was missing something, but we couldn't put our finger on what it was. 4/5

Safe House

A young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.

Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington take the lead in this film. My first thought about this film was can Denzel at 57 years old be an ass kicking bad guy? The answer and resounding YES! I dont think anyone else could have done it better. I like Ryan in serious role as well as comedy roles, he is a very visitable actor, and has come along way since 'Van Wilder'.

Gun fights, fist fight, car chases galore in this film! Thou the one thing with the gun fights, is the guns that they were using, never seemed to run out of bullets, which i suppose is a good thing, they must have been Duracell Guns!

The only downside to this film is that i figured 'the twist' out about 15 minutes into the film. Apart from that i would definitely give it 4/5.

The Muppets

With the help of three fans, The Muppets must reunite to save their old theater from a greedy oil tycoon.

The Muppets are back after a long absence, like their films from the past it is filled with cameos of whos who of Hollywood. Whoopie Goldberg, Jack Black, Sarah Silverman to name a few.
To be honest i thought the script was a bit weak and lack substance and if it was a comedy i must have missed it. I loved The Muppet Treasure Island, watching it i thought i may have out grown them which is sad if its true.
The songs throughout the film, were not catchy at all, if you asked me to repeat one i couldnt.

All and all i think it was a cases of they thought they'd try and make a fast buck and bring them back. I am disappointed in this film, 1/5

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Sean Anderson partners with his mom's boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.

If your thinking about taking your kids to see a film this half term or weekend, this film is for you! Its cheesy and silly, and doesn't take its self too seriously.
I was slightly surprised to see that Michael Cane is in this film, its not the normal type of film you would expect to see him in. (Though he did do Muppet Treasure Island)
The only problem i would find with this film is that it is all a little rushed as its only 93 minutes long everything seemed to happen very quickly. 3/5 especially if you have kids 5-10 they will love it!

It's Complicated & The kids Are Alright.

As these are not resent released but i have just seen them, i thought i would post about them together.

It's Complicated - When attending their son's college graduation, a couple reignite the spark in their relationship...but the complicated fact is they're divorced and he's remarried.

Another Meryl Streep film, as i said in an earlier post, she can do no wrong! its about a 3 way relationship bewteen Meryl, Steve Martin, and Alex Baldwin. Not your average rom-com people i agree more like a midlife crisis rom-com. Odd bits of uncomfortable viewing thou seeing Baldwin semi naked... unless that's your thing! 3/5

-----

The Kids Are All Right - Two children conceived by artificial insemination bring their birth father into their family life.

Nominated for just about every award under the sun, after watching it, its hard to say why Julianne Moore was nominate for supporting actress, when i feel the story was mostly about her character.

A lesbian couple have two children by the same sperm donor and its how the family cope and deal with their biological father entering their lives and the consequences it has on all of them. Its hard to rate this film on a scale of 1-5, it wasn't amazing and it wasn't terrible. so i'll go with 6/10.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.

Holmes is back, in another installment of the franchise, to which i am a fan. Manly cause i think Robert Downey Jr is a great actor in witty roles, that dont require him to be taken seriously like Iron man.

Though i did find the film quite predictable at times, it was still enjoyable to watch. With action, adventure and comedy 3.5-4/5 As the Radio times would say 'Worth a watch'
