Skyfall

Bond's loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Billed as the best ever Bond film, i'm not so sure to be honest! Live and Let Die still has it for me.

It has less gadgets and more action but its still a traditional Bond film, the plot is slightly far fetched but they generally are. Though i think they missed a trick not having Sean Connery doing a cameo in the film, when you'll see it you'll know where!

Javier Bardem plays the Bond villain very well, a slightly creepy, sinister deranged character. The scene with Bond its really quite funny, and i think they played well of each other!

The film is good and well worth a watch, i'll let you judge if its the best or not! 4/5

Frankenweenie

Young Victor conducts a science experiment to bring his beloved dog Sparky back to life, only to face unintended, sometimes monstrous, consequences.

Frankenstein for kids is the best way to describe this film with the Tim Burton twist. Frankenweenie is in black and white, which i wasnt aware off before i watched the film. This isnt a bad thing, it adds to the eeriness of the film.

Its a nice film apart from being a bit sad about Sparky the dog, the storyline is not too heavy, nor did i feel like it dragged and went on too long. Victor is a likeable character and you can engage with him, unlike a couple of films ive seen this year, when i didnt care what happened to the main character.

I dont really have anything bad to say about this film, its hard not to like it, you wont be disappointed! 4/5

Hotel Transylvania

Dracula, who operates a high-end resort away from the human world, goes into overprotective mode when a boy discovers the resort and falls for the count's teen-aged daughter.

I liked this film, but it wasnt as funny as i thought it would be nor did the plot enthrall you. You know what was going to happen, boy meets girl, dad hates boy...

Thou i liked the message the film had for children, Who is the real monster.. but i think that's as deep as the film goes. None of the voices really stood out, apart from Adam Sandler and Steve Busemi I couldnt really tell you who else voiced this film.

Id say this film was better than Madagascar but still fell slightly short of what it could have been. 3/5

Madagascar 3

Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style.

I never really took to the first couple of films, i couldnt seem to connect it. Maybe i just couldn't get over the fact that a Lion, Zebra, Hippo and Giraffe were friends (yes i'm aware its a cartoon)and dont me started on the relationship between Gloria and Melman... Thou i do love Mort (the little guy who idolizes King Julian).

I did like the film, until the end were i thought it had come too far fetched, and i thought this is just getting silly. But then again it is a kiddies film and I'm guessing they like that kinda thing. Don't get me wrong, i do love my animation films, I'm normally the first in line. But if they did a 4th i dont think i would bother seeing it. 2.5/5

Taken 2

In Istanbul, retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his ex-wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter.

If you've seen the first film, you know what this is going to be about, but if you haven't, it doesn't really matter you'll pick up the storyline its not that complicated!

When i was buying the ticket i noticed it was a 12a, which did make me sigh slightly but i suppose they did that to appeal to the masses. Basically there is still loads of killing just without the blood.

Guns and explosions are through out the film, thou no one in authority seems to question why there are a load grenades going off around Istanbul. The only thing that really annoyed me about this film was that the gun Neeson is using never seems to run out of bullets, even though he used all the way though the film!

If you liked the first one, then you will like this one a solid 3/5.

Resident Evil: Retribution

Alice fights alongside a resistance movement in the continuing battle against the Umbrella Corporation and the undead.

They way i described this film to my friend was ' I just wasted 85 minutes of my life, with emphasis on wasted' If you've seen the other films then, there's no point seeing this one. Its almost as if they went, shall we just condense the other films into one? I think its fair to say this falls into the category of pointless squeals.

If you've seen a Norwegian film called 'Dead Snow' which features zombie Nazi's on a killing rampage, they seem to make an appearance in this film, though i think they were meant to be Russian Zombies with guns which can drive....

All and all i thought this was a pointless film but i dont think it will be the last in the franchise (sadly) 1/5

ParaNorman

A boy who is misunderstood by everyone must takes on ghosts, zombies and grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse.

It is quite a dark film for a kiddies film, the only other horror children's film i have seen that was quite as eerie was Monster House. But all i can say is if you are taking kids stick around till the end as i doubt they will be scared by the end.

It is made with stop-motion animation (like Wallace and Gromit.) which i can only imagine takes a lot of dedication to move figures millimeters at a time to make a 90 minutes film. Visually it was great and you couldn't tell that it wasn't animation.

Like most animations there are jokes for kids and for adults, i really enjoyed this film, i was going to pass on it, but i saw clips and an interview with the creators on BBC Breakfast and thought i might as well go see it, and i'm glad i did! A strong 4/5.

Dredd

In a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.

I never saw the original one with Sly, but according to friend it was quite a camp film, this is not! Its a 18 cert and i can see why, its pretty graphic shot in the style of '300' and 'Spartacus'

Karl Urban plays Dredd, i've never heard of before but he played the character well, you only ever see his mouth because he has his helmet on, so some people may have struggled to pull it off.
Lena Heady plays the badie 'Ma-ma' i thought it hard to believe that she was a ruthless gang leader that it may have needed a stronger actress, but then it would be hard to say who could replace her...

I saw the 3d version, apart from animation i dont see the point of 3d films and this was one of them, i dont see the benefit that 3d brought to the film apart from making the gun battles more graphic, if thats what the director was going for it worked!

I really enjoyed the film, more than i thought i would give it 4/5! Its a film that doesnt take itself too seriously and its full of blood, guts and gore!

The Expendables 2

Mr. Church reunites the Expendables for what should be an easy paycheck, but when one of their men is murdered on the job, their quest for revenge puts them deep in enemy territory and up against an unexpected threat.

With more action stars than you can shake a stick at. Just about everyone who had an action film out in the 90's is in this film!

The thing i liked about the first one, was that it doesn't take itself too seriously and neither does this one.I hate to think how many badies died in this film, seen as it was almost 2000 in the first, which tells you its not a film which you have to do a lot of thinking! Basically if your a badie you die!

If you want Gun fight, explosions, fist fights and witty banter then this is the film for you! 4/5 its does exactly what it says on the tin!

Keith Lemon : The Film

Following Keith Lemon from rags to riches, after he becomes an over night success with the Keith Lemon phone, Keith becomes a billionaire starts dating Kelly Brook and gets caught up in his own hype, leaving his girlfriend and life back in Leeds.

I love Celeb Juice, i wouldnt miss an episode. But like me your going to see this film because of that .. dont! its not like that at all, which was a let down for me! Its a toned down Keith and at parts the film becomes surreal and nonsensical.

Its full of celebrity cameos, i think just about every person who has been on Celebrity Juice is in the film, it was almost like they were trying to make up for the film. I dont know why Kelly Brook was the lead women in this film, i thought it would have made it better is Holly or Fearne were the lead.

I was disappointed that i didn't like this film, i was looking forward to it! thou on a lighter note my friend like it, but reading other reviews i think he is the only one.. It pains me to say this but i give this film 1/5. But i will be watching the new series of Celeb Juice...

Total Recall

A factory worker, Douglas Quaid, begins to suspect that he is a spy after visiting Rekall - a company that provides its clients with implanted fake memories of a life they would like to have led - goes wrong and he finds himself on the run.

Another Hollywood remake of dare i say classic? I think the original one had some sort of cult status, it would be hard to find someone between the ages of 25-35 that hasn't seen this film (well in my house anyway!)

Colin Farrell plays Douglas Quaid (Arnie) and i think he plays the lead quite well to be honest, he plays the vulnerable card very well. Kate Beckinsale plays his wife, who was played by Sharon Stone. I'm not a fan of Kate, i think she is a weak actress, all you have to do is look at the Underworld films for that. Nor was i surprised to find that her husband was the director and maybe that's how she got the job... (just saying.. least when Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter work together, you know Helena can act!)

All in all i thought it was a good film for a 12a cert it could have been a lot worse, but it could also have been a lot better, it was never going to be like the original. Arnie was in his hay-day when that film was released and in the early 90's the action films were exactly that, action packed. I dare say we haven't seen the last of the Arnie remakes! 2.5/5

Bachelorette

Three childhood friends are asked to be bridesmaids at a wedding of a woman they used to ridicule back in high school.

I found it hard to connect to Regan the main character who is the maid of honor. But the two other bridesmaids Kate and Gena, were easier 'get'.

When i was telling my friend about this film, I described it as a comedy that forgot it was meant to be one half way through and turn too serious. Which really wrecked the film for me, i was expecting laughs and it did end up quite depressing.  2/5

Brave

Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. After making a wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.

Watching all the trailers for this film, I was never quite sure what this film was about, apart from a Scottish girl with red hair.

Brave is another Disney film with a 'Girl Power' twist, which is a good thing. A girl who can do anything on her own and doesn't need a man to save her, which is a change from Snow White, where the hansom Prince saves the damsel in distress.

I really enjoyed the film, alot of films out at the moment i have thought were slow paced and got bored before things started to happen, but i can say this film kept me entertained all the way through, and I almost had a tear in my eye at the end! I would give this film 4/5!

Wednesday 1 August 2012

Ted

As the result of a childhood wish, John Bennett's teddy bear, Ted, came to life and has been by John's side ever since - a friendship that's tested when Lori, John's girlfriend of four years, wants more from their relationship.

If you love Family Guy, its safe to say you will love this film! its Seth MacFarlane at his best! Rude and crude humor is spread through the film.

It is incredibly funny and its has been along time since i have been in a comedy film that has had the whole cinema audience laughing all the way through! I dont know how many times i have said or someone has said to me 'the funniest parts are in the trailer' but trust be they aren't in this film as they would never be able to be broadcasted!

I'd class it as the funniest film this year! well worth a watch, you wont be disappointed! 4/5

Tuesday 24 July 2012

The Dark Knight Rises

Eight years on, a new terrorist leader, Bane, overwhelms Gotham's finest, and the Dark Knight resurfaces to protect a city that has branded him an enemy.

Like most people i was really looking forward to seeing this film, i thought the Dark Knight was amazing and Heath Ledger's Joker was fantastic, so i only had high hopes for this film.

But to be honest i was very disappointed, I thought the first hour and a half of the film could have been condensed into 20/30 minutes as by the time the action happened i was nearly half asleep.

Batman's Foe in this film is Bane and his voice grated on me, it sounded like he was a combination of South African, Australian and a bad impression of a Bond villain.

The Bat-Pod ( Batman's Motorbike) seemed to be the slowest motorbike you'll ever see on a film and one point i thought a moped would have been able to over take it!

I didnt think the fight scenes were all that either, If you were going to compare it to the Marvel films that have been out in the last couple of years, it doesn't compare!

Id suggest go see Spider-man instead or even Ice Age. I'll only give it 2/5 i was really hoping it was going to be one of the most epic films of the year.. but it wasnt!

Tuesday 17 July 2012

The Lorax

A 12-year-old boy searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

The Film is based on the book by Dr Seuss, which unfortunately i have not read. The only Dr Seuss book i have read is If I Ran a Circus which still remains mine and my siblings (some of which are in the mid 30's) favorite book. He is an amazing wordsmith the way the he writes the stories and the rhythms flow, creating wacky characters and mystical worlds.

To me Pipsqueak a little bear steals the show purely for the reason he is cute, comical and always seems to get in to trouble. Thou he doesnt speak its his facial features that win you over.

Its classed as a comedy, i wouldnt say i laughed a whole lot but i did thoroughly enjoy it! It would be hard to say which film to see between Ice Age 4 or this, id say this is ahead but just by a whisker! 4/5

Ice Age 4 Continental Drift

Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.

I wasnt a big fan of the third one which had the dinosaurs in, a part of me thought it was a pointless story. So i went into this one with baited breath. As me and my friend were buying the tickets, the lady serving us said that she thought it was really funny as she'd seen it yesterday. And she was right, it was!

So the continents begin to separate because of scratch and his acorn. The guys get separated on an iceberg and float off into the new world. The film follows their journey trying to get back to Ellie and Peaches (the daughter).

Its a funny film which i would recommend seeing, especially if you have kids or if your like me a big one! a solid 4/5

Tuesday 10 July 2012

The Amazing Spider-Man

Peter Parker finds a clue that might help him understand why his parents disappeared when he was young. His path puts him on a collision course with Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner.

This version of Spider Man is biased more on the comics than the last Spider Man movies which stared Toby Maguire.

I have to say i enjoyed this new franchise more than the last, not that i have read the comics but i enjoyed the storyline more. I found that this Peter Parker was more likeable and not 'wo is me' as the last. I could see this Spider Man linking up with The Avengers, as this character seemed to have the personality that would work well with Tony Stark, with the sarcastic humor and comments made by Peter during the fight scenes.

The special effects were more realistic for the action sequences than the other films too, but i suppose that is because technology has moved on since then.

I really enjoyed this film and hopefully they will make another, I would give this film 4/5 well worth a watch!

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.

To cut a long story short, the film goes through the major events of Abraham Lincoln's life, from a young boy to the end of his life, each major event in his life was at the doing of vampires.

After a chance meeting at a pub Abraham is recruited by Henry Sturgess to become a vampire slayer, he moves town and begins to slay vampires, which starts to get himself noticed by the ruler of the vampires, who obviously wants to take over America.

The final battle is staged at the Battle of Gettysburg, can Abraham and his friends defeat the army of vampires and save America?

I enjoyed the film, it was better than i thought it would be! A part of me thought it might be a cheesy horror, but it wasnt if you take out the fact its Abraham Lincoln who's the Vampire slayer, it does stand up as as Vampire film on its own merit. Though these Vampires can go out in day light which annoys me, but at these they aren't glittery! 3/5! Well worth a watch!

Tuesday 12 June 2012

Prometheus

A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Its been deemed the 'Prequal' to Aliens, but i found it raised more questions than it answered. The whole journey home myself and my friend were trying to figure it out. If you refer to all the other films including the Predator films, it doesn't quite make sense.

If we take the film on its own merit, it was enjoyable though predicable in parts. A rich business man funds a trip two years away from earth for an explorer who is searching for god, but what are his motives?

Id go watch this film if your a fan of Science Fiction not cause your a die hard fan of Alien! 3/5

Monday 28 May 2012

Men In Black III

After an alien criminal travels back in time and kills the young Agent K in 1969, altering the timeline, changing the Agency and placing the Earth in danger from alien invasions. Agent J (Will Smith) must travel back in time to 1969 to before the murder and work with the young Agent K to save him and the entire human race!

Every time I watch a squeal I tend to think is it just another chance for the studio to make money off the franchise, and to be honest i have to say i think this is all this film is. In fact I'm struggling to even remember what happened in the second film!

The special effects in this film are good and that goes without saying, the aliens look very impressive. The storyline is basically J going back in time, but if your going to make a film about time travel it opens up too many questions and if Agent J travels back in time to help change history, surely it changes the present that he has come from? anyway... maybe the director needs to watch Back to the Future and Doc could explain it too him.

To be honest i wouldn't rush to see this film, i think the major selling point is Will Smith who is the highest grossing actor in history. Though i didnt think his one liners and witty banter were very funny at all, i dont think i laughed more than twice! which is a shame as i was looking forward to seeing this film. 2/5

The Dictator

The Dictator, Aladeen is summoned to the UN due to his nuclear missile program and his human rights record. Where he is betrayed and cast out in to New York and has to try find his way back home, before his beloved African nation of Waadeya is changed forever.

With a lot of comedy's these days the funniest bits are in the advert, but this isn't one of them. Myself and my fellow cinema goers were laughing all the way through the film.

This film isnt shot like Bruno and Borat the documentary style film, there is a story line and a love story, can a Hippy Chick and a ruthless Dictator find love, well you'll have to watch and find out.

Some people will find the jokes in the film offensive, but if you've seen any of his other films you know he's not going to be PC. I will give it a 4/5 its funny and does exactly what it says on the tin, definitely worth a watch!

How I Spent My Summer Vacation / Get the Gringo

A career criminal (Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy.

Billed as Mel Gibson's come back film, and i think its safe to say it is. Though i think the film could have had a little more publicity and why it has two names is beyond me. Get the Gringo would have worked here in the UK and in the States.

The relationship between Gibson and the kid was great and the banter between them was a major part of the film. I'd say the partnership worked even better than that of Gibson and Glover in the Lethal Weapon films. Gibson can still carry a film, whatever his problems off screen the 56 year old still pull off the 'action hero'.

I liked the way the film built the story up, everything flowed nicely building up to the climax at the end. Yes there will be films with more action and bigger budget, but i would highly recommend seeing this film, you wont be disappointed! I give this film 4/5 but it could easily have been 5/5.

Friday 11 May 2012

Safe

A former elite agent (Statham) takes on a two-tier mission: rescue a Chinese girl who has been abducted by the Triads, then use a highly desired safe combination to outwit the Russian Mafia, corrupt NYC officials, and the Triads themselves.

I think its safe to say if you have seen one Jason Statham film, you've seen them all. Which is not a put down as i enjoy them, he is the last action hero! He's the king of the kick ass routy tooty shooty film!

Can Statham defeat the Chinese Mafia and the Russian mob and the corrupt police force without breaking a sweat, with a handful of witty one liners? Yes, which is why you watch the films. 3-4/5

Dark Shadows

An imprisoned vampire, Barnabas Collins, is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his protection.

The Burton, Depp, Bonham Carter partnership has joined forces again, its not as dark as past films less gory than Sweeney Todd, i'm guessing so it could have a lower rating so kids can go see this film.

I feel the real stand out performance in this film was Eva Green who plays Angelique Bouchard (The Witch) i'm a big fan of hers and i've been waiting for another good role for her. You would defiantly describe her character as a Bunny Boiler, who is obsessed with Barnabas and will stop at nothing to get him! Which ends at one point with the strangest sex scenes you will ever see, kind of if a ken and barbie did it. (When you see it, you'll understand)

I enjoyed the film, thou Depp wasnt as kookie as his past outings with Burton, he still has his humorous moment. Barnabas's other love interest in the film is Victoria, as the film was based more on Depp's and Eva's relationship it was hard to see her as 'The One' but i suppose the entertaining aspect of the film was Eva's character, so i think Burton made the right choice. 4/5

American Reunion

Jim, Michelle, Stifler, and their friends reunite in East Great Falls, Michigan for their high school reunion.

Lets face it, non of the sequels have not come close to the original and this one isnt any different! Yes its ten years on, and they have they grown up, but its just the same old story as the other films. The lads haven't really grown up their still the immature lads they always were. In reality it could just be the first film set 10 years on, just the story lines switched to different characters.

I have no doubt that it will rake in the money for the studio, but to be it didn't quite stand up for me. 1/5

Angels Crest

The death of a 3-year-old boy divides a tightly knit community and confront what Nate's death means to them and in the face of that struggle, they deal with their own concepts of right and wrong.

Apart from Elizabeth McGovern (Downton Abbey) the cast was unknown to me, but that wasnt a bad thing as i find these Indy films really have good actors in, and they dont take anything away from the film, which a big named actor would.

According to IMDB it only grossed $498 as it was released in 1 screen. Which is a great shame and i hope its going to get released again and launched properly.

But back to the film... It is thought provoking and you go through a range of emotions, its easy to sit on both sides of the fence.

I enjoyed the film even though it covers a terrible subject of a child's death. Thomas Dekker puts in a great performance of Nate's father. 4/5 Though i think the only way you will be able to watch this film is to rent it, but i would!

Random Fact about this film is during a scene in the dinner a song is playing, and its Elizabeth McGovern's band Sadie and the Hot Heads!

Friday 27 April 2012

Avengers Assemble

Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D. brings together a team of super humans to form The Avengers to help save the Earth from Loki and his army.

This is by far the best film of the year! The banter between the Avengers is great and makes the film, so much so they could have just had them all sat in a car on a road trip and it would have been great!

Robert Downey Jr is man, the Chris's are great and some of Thor's one liners are some of the funniest things in the film. Also this is one of the best Hulk films that's been made in the series of the 3 flops before it.

Too sound like one of those crappy posters, If you only see one film this year see this!! 5/5. A M A Z I N G

Monday 16 April 2012

The Cabin in the Woods

Five friends go for a break at a remote cabin in the woods, where they get more than they bargained for. Together, they must discover the truth behind the cabin in the woods.

I think anyone in the modern day when one of their friends go 'Hey wanna come stay in a secluded cabin in the woods' your answer would be 'no' as we all know what happens and this film is no different.

I didnt warm to the lead female character so i didnt really route for her to survive sadly but i did love the stoner character Marty, hes has witty one liners.

It does follow normal horror film time lines and rules, but my friend told me its more like the horror films of old like Evil dead. The only way to describe this film is strange, and im not the only one to say that but i think if you like horror films you'll like it. But seen as im not a massive fan of horror i'm only giving it 2/5.

Friday 6 April 2012

The Hunger Games

Set in a future where the Capitol selects a boy and girl from the twelve districts to fight to the death on live television, Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her younger sister's place for the latest match.

I was skeptical about this film, as a Battle Royale faithful i thought that it was too much similarity like a lot of people.

But i believe there is room for both these film, i really enjoyed it and it left me hungry for more (boom boom!) Its less gory than RB and more about the relationships the contestants. Id describe it as RB meets Running Man but a cert 12a ( so, no Arnie cutting people up with a chainsaw.)

The participants in the Hunger Games are between 12-18 a boy and a girl from 12 districts and have a few days to learn basic survival skills before they are pitted against each other. Part entertainment, and retribution for a past rebellion. They can gain sponsour from people ie (rich people) who can send them items which they require.

With a little interfering from the production crew of the Hunger Games to make it more exciting to the viewers by adding dangers, who will survive?

I give it 4/5 and cant wait for the next film!

The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists!

Pirate Captain sets out on a mission to defeat his rivals Black Bellamy and Cutlass Liz for the Pirate of the year Award. The quest takes Captain and his crew from the shores of Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London.

This was a nice animation to watch over half term (if only i was still at school) I have no major qualms with this film apart from one. Salma Hayeks character was meant to be from the West Indies but she just did her Mexican accent, they might as well have just made her Spanish seen as she was only in it briefly.

I think the animal characters made this film, the bird and the monkey. Aardmans have a knack of making the speechless animals, such as Gromit the starts of the show.

Hugh Grant played the Pirate Captain though i think he sounded like he was doing his best Hugh Laurie impression.

Through the twist and turns of this film The Pirate Captain learns what really matters to him. A swash buckling 3.5/5

Tuesday 3 April 2012

Wrath of the Titans

Perseus braves the treacherous underworld to rescue his father, Zeus, captured by his son, Ares, and brother Hades who unleash the ancient Titans upon the world.

Sam Worthington plays Perseus and every so often he would come out with an Australian accent which was very off putting, to say the rest of the cast were mainly British actors and actresses. But saying that Bill Nighty had a Yorkshire accent, which again seemed odd as it was meant to be sent in ancient Greece!

Everything in the film seemed to happen very quickly. The story was over before it even started, the run time was 99 minutes, which seems very short to say they have to save the world from Titans.

Apart from that the film was ok, the action scenes were good thou no 300 or Spartacus mainly because it was cert 12. Not that i wanted blood, guts and gore but i think a lot of these films should go to a cert 15 and show blood or unless in Ancient Greece they didn't bleed?

Its a non thinking film where you can just sit back and enjoy 3/5.

Tuesday 27 March 2012

Detachment

A substitute teacher who drifts from classroom to classroom finds a connection to the students and teachers during his latest assignment.

Its hard to describe this film, during the entirety of the film it has clips of the teachers talking about teaching or about the students, but i'm not sure why, its never really explained. As in are they being interviewed or is it meant to be a documentary?

Adrian Brody is the Sub teacher who seems a detached character, forms a friendship with a teenage prostitute and takes her under his wing and tries to teach her she can do better. While he's doing this, the school he teaches in faces closure as its test scores are the lowest around.

Basically its how teachers and students cope with the pressures of school life and the pressures of everyday, it definitely has the 'indy film' vibe and certainly isn't a life changer 2/5.

Monday 12 March 2012

Raven

When a madman begins committing horrific murders inspired by Edgar Allan Poe's works, a young Baltimore detective joins forces with Poe to stop him from making his stories a reality.

The closest i have come to Edgar Allan Poe is The Simpsons episode they did. Anyway my friend and i thought the film was a interesting concept, a Tim Burton style film. I didnt have any complaints about John Cusack who played Poe, thou i thought the actor playing the detective lack a bit of charisma.

Unlike other films ive seen this year didnt work out the 'badie' until the end. I liked the film, so did my friend thou we both agreed it was missing something, but we couldn't put our finger on what it was. 4/5

Safe House

A young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.

Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington take the lead in this film. My first thought about this film was can Denzel at 57 years old be an ass kicking bad guy? The answer and resounding YES! I dont think anyone else could have done it better. I like Ryan in serious role as well as comedy roles, he is a very visitable actor, and has come along way since 'Van Wilder'.

Gun fights, fist fight, car chases galore in this film! Thou the one thing with the gun fights, is the guns that they were using, never seemed to run out of bullets, which i suppose is a good thing, they must have been Duracell Guns!

The only downside to this film is that i figured 'the twist' out about 15 minutes into the film. Apart from that i would definitely give it 4/5.

The Muppets

With the help of three fans, The Muppets must reunite to save their old theater from a greedy oil tycoon.

The Muppets are back after a long absence, like their films from the past it is filled with cameos of whos who of Hollywood. Whoopie Goldberg, Jack Black, Sarah Silverman to name a few.
To be honest i thought the script was a bit weak and lack substance and if it was a comedy i must have missed it. I loved The Muppet Treasure Island, watching it i thought i may have out grown them which is sad if its true.
The songs throughout the film, were not catchy at all, if you asked me to repeat one i couldnt.

All and all i think it was a cases of they thought they'd try and make a fast buck and bring them back. I am disappointed in this film, 1/5

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

Sean Anderson partners with his mom's boyfriend on a mission to find his grandfather, who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.

If your thinking about taking your kids to see a film this half term or weekend, this film is for you! Its cheesy and silly, and doesn't take its self too seriously.
I was slightly surprised to see that Michael Cane is in this film, its not the normal type of film you would expect to see him in. (Though he did do Muppet Treasure Island)
The only problem i would find with this film is that it is all a little rushed as its only 93 minutes long everything seemed to happen very quickly. 3/5 especially if you have kids 5-10 they will love it!

It's Complicated & The kids Are Alright.

As these are not resent released but i have just seen them, i thought i would post about them together.

It's Complicated - When attending their son's college graduation, a couple reignite the spark in their relationship...but the complicated fact is they're divorced and he's remarried.

Another Meryl Streep film, as i said in an earlier post, she can do no wrong! its about a 3 way relationship bewteen Meryl, Steve Martin, and Alex Baldwin. Not your average rom-com people i agree more like a midlife crisis rom-com. Odd bits of uncomfortable viewing thou seeing Baldwin semi naked... unless that's your thing! 3/5

-----

The Kids Are All Right - Two children conceived by artificial insemination bring their birth father into their family life.

Nominated for just about every award under the sun, after watching it, its hard to say why Julianne Moore was nominate for supporting actress, when i feel the story was mostly about her character.

A lesbian couple have two children by the same sperm donor and its how the family cope and deal with their biological father entering their lives and the consequences it has on all of them. Its hard to rate this film on a scale of 1-5, it wasn't amazing and it wasn't terrible. so i'll go with 6/10.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.

Holmes is back, in another installment of the franchise, to which i am a fan. Manly cause i think Robert Downey Jr is a great actor in witty roles, that dont require him to be taken seriously like Iron man.

Though i did find the film quite predictable at times, it was still enjoyable to watch. With action, adventure and comedy 3.5-4/5 As the Radio times would say 'Worth a watch'

The Iron Lady

A look at the life of Margaret Thatcher, the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, with a focus on the price she paid for power.

You would struggle to pick fault with any performance by Meryl Streep this one included, she can do no wrong. In fact i started to believe that i was watching a Margaret Thatcher documentary.

I dont know if its a good thing that she looked so spitting image of her, lets some there were hours in the makeup chair! I really enjoyed this film, as i said, i could have quite believe it was a documentary. As an 80's child all i really knew of Thatcher was she was a milk snatcher... The film showed that what ever decisions a world leader has to make, they must live with the consequences for the rest of their life. 4.5/5

Underworld: Awakening

When human forces discover the existence of the Vampire and Lycan clans, a war to eradicate both species commences. The vampire warrioress Selene leads the battle against humankind.

I went into this movie expecting not to be blown away, and i wasnt disappointed. The thing that struck me most was that the acting was terrible from just about everyone one of the cast, apart from a character called Lida, who was only in about 2 scenes.

This is the fourth Underworld film, and it proved the notion about squeals. Each one has got progressively worse.

I really hope they dont made a Fifth, but that could mean that Kate Beckinsale is out of work, but if this film is anything to go by it might not be a bad thing. 1/5
